
Description
A Finely carved wooden handle featuring a seated female ancestor, with incised linear designs and a deep well handled honey colored surface patina. The remains of an animal tail are still present on the top of the handle. The handle measures 12 inches tall , 13.75 inches tall on its custom display stand which is included. Bakongo peoples, DRC/ Congo, central Africa. Provenance: Ex J. Camp Gallery, 1980s , also Sol & Josephine Levitt collection, New York, also a private New jersey collection.
Condition
Fair, well handled and used, only a patch of animal hide remains, the hair has worn away.
