Description
Ceramic house model (mingqi) dating to the Han period, circa 220 CE. This example was created as a tomb furnishing to provide a symbolic dwelling for the deceased in the afterlife. The structure is rectangular in form with a projecting roof and open front window. Interior shelf detail is visible within the central opening. The surface is covered in a green lead-based glaze typical of Han funerary wares, with areas of glaze loss and surface wear consistent with age. The piece stands on molded supports with figural detailing at the base.An authentic Han dynasty burial object, not a later reproduction.
