The Tai Lü (also spelled variously as Thai Lue and Tai Lue) are an ethnic group that lives throughout China, Laos, Thailand, Burma, and Vietnam. Once known for their ancient script that is thought to predate Chinese kanji, and in modern times for their vibrant textiles and their strict Buddhist principles, their numbers have dwindled over the years to less than 2 million worldwide due to the many land conflicts in Asia in the 20th Century.
