The 1901-S Double Eagle gold coin is actually very uncommon. For the half eagle and eagle (that is, the $5 and $10 coins), they were among the most popular and highly minted pieces of the series. But, that changed for the 1901-S $20. In Gem Mint State grades it is hardly ever seen.
