Description
This exceptional full sheet originates from Poland and belongs to the classic definitive issue Eagle on a Baroque Shield, released on 25 January 1921 during the formative years of the Second Polish Republic. The design, created by Edward Trojanowski, presents the crowned Polish eagle set within an ornate baroque shield, a powerful national emblem symbolizing sovereignty, continuity, and cultural revival following Poland’s re-establishment as an independent state after World War I. The stamp is printed typographically in a light blue color and issued with a denomination of 3 Polish marks, reflecting the early post-war monetary system prior to currency stabilization. The sheet is printed on distinctive grey paper showing vertical or horizontal striping, an important production characteristic of this issue and a key point of interest for specialists. Perforation varies within the issue, consistent with contemporary Polish printing practices, and the sheet format preserves full margins, selvage, and control elements as originally issued. Cataloged as Polish Stamps Catalog PL 116a, this example represents a minor listed variant and is offered here in full sheet format, an increasingly scarce survival due to extensive postal usage and later sheet break-up. As a complete, intact sheet in mint never hinged condition, it offers strong appeal both as a display piece and as a significant reference example for advanced collectors of Polish philately, interwar European issues, and heraldic stamp design. Estimate "$700 – 1,000".
Condition
Mint never hinged full sheet with fresh color light natural paper toning and intact perforations.
