Chinese Antique Bamboo Gilt Repousse Brush Pot

Description

Chinese antique cylindrical scholar's brush pot hand carved from bamboo featuring a deep relief figural landscape scene depicting a hunter and his dog beneath a pine tree, accompanied by birds in flight and a running wild boar. The finely carved composition demonstrates strong depth and movement, characteristic of traditional literati carving. The reverse is decorated in raised lacquer relief with chrysanthemum blooms, butterflies, bamboo stalks, and sparrows, creating a rich contrast of texture and subject matter. Geometric meander band borders frame the upper rim, adding a classical decorative element. Character marks are carved along the left side of the landscape scene. The brush pot reflects the refined artistic tradition of Chinese scholar's objects, combining narrative imagery with auspicious floral symbolism. Provenance South American collection.

Dimensions: 6.5 X 5.5 X 4.75 in.

Condition: Good to fair overall antique condition with typical surface wear and patina, showing visible age-related splits along the sides.
