Italian 17th Century Lapis Lazuli Marble Frame

Description

Italian 17th Century, an antique Baroque square ebonized wood frame featuring inset panels of deep blue lapis lazuli and breccia marble. The colored stones are arranged in alternating oval and quatrefoil forms, framed by richly veined red marble borders that create a bold polychrome effect characteristic of Italian pietra dura inspired design. Surmounting the frame is a gilt bronze crest cast with a winged cherub mask and scrolling foliate details, fitted with a suspension loop for wall hanging. The central opening is designed to accommodate an image measuring approximately 9.5 x 9.5 inches. The combination of hardstone inlay, ebonized wood, and gilt bronze ornament reflects the grandeur and decorative richness. No apparent maker's marks. Provenance South American collection.

Dimensions: 22 X 17.75 X 1.75 in.

Condition: Good to fair overall antique condition with typical age-related surface wear and patina. Visible cracks and small losses to the inlay and wood, with the reverse showing period joinery and expected storage wear.
