Description
Japanese Woodblock Print, undated, numbered 3 published by Kinako
SIZE IN INCHES: chuban, 11.5 x 8.75 inches
COMMENTS: This print is a collaboration as unexpected as it is imposssible: tat of illustrator Yani Yu, whose animals melt the hearts of our inner child, and Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, the last great master of ukiyo-e. The scene features a cat drawn by Yani Yu amidst snow laden trees borrowed from a print designed by Yoshitoshi.
In addition to sumi ink and colored pigments, mica powder was applied to lend briilliance to the snow grownd. An embossing technique gives the snow a sense of texture.
