Description
East Asia, Japan, Edo to Meiji era, ca. 19th century CE. A copper fuchi and kashira set decorated with raised gilt motifs, the fuchi being the sword-hilt collar that sits between the tsuba (guard) and tsuka (handle), and the kashira serving as the ornamental butt cap or pommel at the end of the sword handle. The fuchi is worked with a dragon emerging from swirling clouds, its body extending along the band in relief. The kashira pommel cap features a pheasant among flowering branches, rendered in similar raised detail. Both elements retain gilt decoration with gold content between approximately 14% and 51%, creating a striking contrast against the darker copper surface. Size: 1.5" L x 0.75" W (3.8 cm x 1.9 cm); gold quality: 14% to 51% (equivalent to 3K+ to 12K+)
