Oil on board portrait by Henry Raschen (1854-1937). Raschen, a German-born American painter, was one of the first California artists to focus extensively on Native American themes. He studied at the School of Design in San Francisco under Joseph Harrington and Charles Christian Nahl, then trained for eight years at the Munich Academy in Germany. In 1883, he opened his studio, specializing in portraiture and restoration, and continued painting until his death in 1937. The frame is 18" x 16", and the board is 13" x 11". The artwork is signed in the lower right corner of the board. There are some scuffs and chips along the frame's edge. The artwork itself appears to be in good condition with one small chip/paint loss in the left center and general craquelure from age. Please reference all of the photographs.
