American Arts And Crafts Copper And Iron Log Holder, C. 1910

This log holder is nearly identical to a known and documented model produced in 1908 by Gustav Stickley. This could possibly also be by Stickley, but it is unsigned.

This heavy fireplace log holder is executed in the Arts and Crafts "Mission" idiom, combining a hammered copper trough-form liner with a riveted, strapwork iron cradle and slatted side guards. The copper body displays a dense planished surface with a warm, time-darkened tone and areas of verdigris that read as an honest byproduct of age and use, while the surrounding ironwork is worked with broad, hand-hammered faces and secured with domed rivets, emphasizing the period's preference for visible construction and workshop integrity.
