A large Ming Dynasty Xuande period blue and white porcelain jar with a dragon motif. The jar is 48cm tall and 41cm wide. It has a straight mouth, full shoulders, a rounded belly tapering down, and a circular foot. The domed cover has a precious pearl finial and fits snugly over the mouth of the jar, giving the vessel a full and dignified shape. The size is large and the overall presence is grand.The glaze is evenly applied, thick and lustrous, with a bright blue hue ("bright blue glaze") shining through the white, and the blue pigment used is imported "Sumali blue." The color is rich and vibrant, with some areas showing natural rust spots and a noticeable halo effect. The glaze exhibits uneven aging cracks of varying sizes, with cloudy inclusions visible in the layers. The signs of aging are evident.The belly of the jar is decorated with a motif of "herbaceous dragons," where the dragons are depicted in a coiled posture, holding auspicious flowers in their mouths, with abstract yet dynamic forms, surrounded by auspicious cloud patterns. This motif is characteristic of the Xuande period.The overall composition of the jar is full and harmonious, with intricate yet clear patterns, creating a dense and compact visual effect. The painting is smooth and natural, with a rich color palette.The overall shape of the vessel is dignified, robust, and upright, exuding a sense of ancient simplicity. The condition is intact, with a complete appearance and a quality consistent with the images.
