Description
The form of this knife is among my favorites... really appealing and very handsome. It is excellent in all respects, and far better made than most rebel Bowies. The steel guard on this knife is distinctively styled and refined as opposed to the more common, crude and clunky Southern D-Guards. This knuckle bow is forged with a distinctive flattened wide area in the center. Some call this a door-handle D-Guard. Also, the blade is milled to form a professional, flat, stepped ricasso, as opposed to a simple blacksmith forged and hammered blade. Whoever made these knives made knives for a living, and was good at it. The maker is unknown, but the knives themselves are well known to collectors. My gut feeling is they were made in Virginia or North Carolina. I believe the handle is Ash. It bears the owner's initials... W W H
This is sheathed in a magnificent hand sewn tooled brown leather scabbard with an angled belt loop on the back. The angled loop is significant as it is a knife-fighters feature, as opposed to that of a hunter, trapper, or frontiersman. The seam stitching is largely separated. The leather is very sound. The body is marginally longer (2") than the knife blade.
Blade is 11". Full length is 15 3/4".
$45 for packing, shipping, and signature service. Insurance is $2 per hundred dollars in value. No shipments outside USA.
