
Description
This sword was forged and signed by the first generation (shodai) sword smith Tadakuni of Shinano province. The blade is in excellent condition with no major issues and is adorned on each side with long, carefully cut, single groove bohi. The surface structure displays an expertly executed hada and a perfectly controlled medium suguha hamon. The sword is mounted in attractive tachi mounts with a lacquered saya entirely embellished with gold lacquer Tokagawa Aoi Mons. The handle is fit with hand chased brass panels depicting flowing vines, fire gilded Aoi Mon menuki, handachi style fuchi and kashira and completed with a chrysanthemum capped friction held mekugi. The tsuba is of typical four lobed tachi style pierced in each corner with boars eye designs and covered entirely with geometric patterns.The sword is signed with the inscription: Shinano Daijo Fujiwara Tadakuni. Overall condition of the blade is very good with no major flaws, chips, or bends. The koshirae is in a condition commensurate with it's age and use. Full length 37.5 inches, blade length 25.5 inches.
