Tower Pattern 1858 Rifled Percussion Musket, the model used by both North and South during the Civil war, a 39" round barrel, .58 caliber, block form front sight, brass nose at stock, cleaning/ram rod, three barrel bands two of which have sling/stacking swivels, the center barrel band with visible marks "D 4 V", the rear ladder sight is void of letters and numbers, centered at the barrel end near the nipple is a circular asterisk inspection mark, the barrel tang has been stamped twice making the serial number difficult to read: likely 739..8, the unmarked lock plate held by screws with inset brass nuts at the opposite side of the stock, the brass trigger guard with a sling swivel at the front and apparent inspection marks at the rear tang, the brass butt plate with tang set at the top of the butt stock, the hammer holds on half and full cock and is responsive to the trigger, the bore appears fairly clean and has straight rifling, the stock and metal has been clear varnished, approx. 55"l, 8.70lbs
