French Bronze and Marble Cassolettes Candleholders

Description

French, a pair of 18th century Louis XVI style gilt bronze mounted Carrara marble cassolettes of double usage form, each designed with reversible covers that convert to candlesticks. The white marble urn form bodies are mounted with finely cast gilt bronze fittings, including rim mounts and foliate accents, and are raised on elegant tripod bases formed as goat head legs joined by draped swags. The bases terminate on circular plinths with beaded trim, demonstrating refined neoclassical design inspired by the Louis XVI period. The combination of Carrara marble and gilded bronze exemplifies the sophistication of French decorative arts of the 18th century. No apparent maker's marks. Provenance South American Collection.
