Description
This has been part of my personal collection for decades. I purchased the effects of Lieut. Charles Cunningham 9th Ohio Cavalry directly from the family which included his uniform coat insignia horse equipment badges and more. In the set was an identified Revolutionary War soldiers flame stitched wallet which I sold separately and recouped a chunk of my investment. I kept the set until two years ago when a collector friend of mine named Cunningham finally talked me into selling it. He had been prodding me for years. I sold him everything connected to Charles Cunningham 9th OVC and 7th OVI, but I kept Wade Hampton's manual for personal reasons. (I named my first son Wade Hampton, and my middle name is Wade.) The book is in excellent condition and is boldly inscribed in brown ink with the Hampton identification. When I first received the material from the family I was baffled by this book being present. Years later I learned that the 9th Ohio Cavalry regiment was the unit that ransacked Hamptons three sisters Millwood Plantation near Columbia, where he kept his personal Library. Ohio officer Cunningham grabbed the regulations manual and brought it home as a souvenir. Books from Hampton's library surface from time to time and all the old school CS collectors are familiar with his library being pilfered and his sisters house ransacked by those Ohio Buckeye Bastards.
