Description
Historical cross-section piece or tree cookie from the Charter Oak of Hartford, Connecticut, displaying the tree's concentric annual rings along the interior.
The Charter Oak refers to a legendary 17th-century event in Connecticut’s history. According to tradition, in 1687, Connecticut colonists hid their Royal Charter of 1662 inside an exceptionally large white oak tree to prevent British officials from seizing it. Had the charter been taken, Connecticut would have lost a significant degree of independence. The tree became a lasting symbol of American freedom and resistance to royal authority.
Height: 2 in x diameter, approximately: 5 in.
